U.S. Venture Capital Funding Continues to Decline, Suggest 2010 Figures

Filed in archive News on January 12, 2011

2010 was another tough year for venture capital, according to Dow Jones. The industry venture capital fundraising shrank by 14% to $11.6 billion as compared to $13.5 billion in 2009. This is a huge fall for venture capital when placed against the VC funding of $40 billion that was raised in 2007.

According to Dow Jones, the majority of venture capital funds were accounted for by Multi-stage funds, where 38 funds collected $5.4 billion. Data suggests that LPs are becoming increasingly selective while investing.

This conflicts with the believed acceleration of the NY tech venture capital scene, which is on the verge of a bubble. However, New York accounts for only a small portion of the total U.S. venture capital funding and in not yet big enough to lift up the broader venture capital market.

Using Conference Calling for Your China Business Deals

China is growing its economy at a very fast rate. Many other countries and investors are taking note of the opportunities laden in China.

Venture capitalists from overseas are also keen to invest in small to medium Chinese businesses. One of the challenges however with investing in China is the language barrier. Many Chinese entrepreneurs can only speak in Mandarin or Cantonese Chinese. That is why conference calling to China can be very useful. Overseas venture capitalists can call up their business contacts in China, but at the same time they can also have a professional translator on the line. The translator can simultaneously listen in on the call and they can be a channel through which both the Chinese entrepreneur and the overseas venture capitalist can communicate.

The world is certainly getting smaller through globalization. Through the use of conference calls combined with translation services, international investors can get a piece of the action of the booming Chinese economy.

The craze of barbie dolls has been a phenomena in the United States, making its investors very rich in the process. The Chinese economy is booming, and Chinese companies that manufacture and distribute dolls, toys and other products have the potential to be just as profitable.

The recent Venture Summiy Silicon Valley recognized this fact. Capital is increasingly globalizing and plenty of that capital is heading to China. The major venture capital firms have moved to China in search of the next big product similar to Barbie dolls. More and more venture capital firms are appreciating the talent of Chinese entrepreneurs, as many of these entrepreneurs are more inclined to take on risks in order to achieve big rewards. China's involvement in the telecommunications equipment market has shown its leadership. One of the major challenges to the Chinese economy, however, is the potential corruption of the government, which may hamper economic growth. Either way, China continues to create innovative products at very efficient speeds. It is certainly a force to be reckoned with.
