With the year-end approaching, it is apparent that the interest in China's venture capital industry shows no signs of waning, and if anything is certain, the investment fever continues. Today in Boston, private equity and venture capitalists are gathered at Strategic Research Institute's "Private Equity Investing Forum". Topics to be addressed include: China market entry and growth tactics, Cross border China M&A deals, and Investment hotspots and ventures in China. Next week, Zero2ipo hosts its annual China Venture Capital Annual Forum in Shanghai.
The facts are startling: Foreign direct investments reached $61 billion in realized funds in 2004 while the value of China's M&A deals is now worth US$42.2 billion in the year up until mid-October 2005 according to published reports.
The influx of new money along with big name international private equity and venture capital firms like Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co, 3i, Bain Capital, JP Morgan Partners Asia and CVC Capital Partners expanding their investments in China suggests that there are certainly opportunities in China that investors cannot afford to miss.
Meanwhile, over the past several months, I have developed a friendship with Professor Manhong Liu or Mannie to her friends and colleagues. She has been a professor at Remnin University's School of Finance since 1997 and is also chairman of VCChina which provides venture capital research and consulting, seminars and also publishes policy shaping reports and news.
VCChina established in 2000 is dedicated to bridging the gap between investors and Chinese entrepreneurial start up companies. CVN expects to cooperate more fully with this able team since we perceive there is a need for more analysis and views on China's VC industry developments.
