Focus is Venture Capital and Entrepreneurs in Shanghai
Filed in archive Conferences on August 8, 2006
Next week there's another high profile China tech conference held in Shanghai where there appears to be a convergence of more Sand Hill Road VCs. The sponsors for the scheduled Stanford ATI Entrepreneurial Conference on August 16 at Zhangjiang High-Tech Park include, Focus Ventures, Dragon Bridge Capital, DFJ Dragon and Stanford University.
Founded in 1999, Asia Technology Initiative (ATI) is a Stanford-affiliated student-organized entrepreneurship program whose goal is to build long-term ties between Stanford University and Asian academia and industry.
Chinese blogger, Wangjianshuo captures some of the high profile background on Zhangjiang High-Tech Park. After all, it is regarded as Shanghai's answer to Silicon Valley.
Focus Venture's, Jim Boettcher, one of the four general partners, and a regular
speaker on the China venture circuit, established Focus Pacific Technology Group (FPTG), which maintains an active Shanghai Representative Office.
In a previous release he has stated: "We have a strong record of helping companies from the West secure Asia-based business alliances that can make them more efficient and ultimately more profitable. It's been a 'win-win' strategy. Companies in China and elsewhere in Asia need outside partnerships to help get their products into foreign markets, and to obtain certain skill sets that may be more prevalent in the West."
With the increasing number of Chinese tech entrepreneurs entering the market, look for more Sand Hill Road VC conferences before year end.
