China's Iron Lady: Wu Yi Will Retire
Filed in archive News on November 26, 2007
China's Iron Lady, Vice Premier Wu Yi, announced on Friday that she would retire in March when China's new administration takes office, according to Seniors World Chronicle. Wu is 69.
Wu is a regular news maker in China. She has been especially in the spotlight, though, since August when she took on the job of fixing quality control in China's manufacturing and agriculture sectors. In October Wu's office was partly responsible for hundreds of arrests in a product safety crackdown in China.
Wu was left out of the new Chinese government which takes over in March. Her announcement brings an end to speculation about her retirement.
